How Do Courts Divide Debts in Divorce?

In Texas, debts are usually divided between the spouses in a divorce. This division happens in the same way that community property is divided. It is done fairly and equitably. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, if one spouse incurred a debt without the knowledge or consent of the other spouse, that debt may be awarded to the spouse who incurred it.
